The NHL preseason is the first opportunity for fans to get a look at the season ahead and so far New Jersey Devils fans are disappointed with the Sheldon Keefe era.

The New Jersey Devils decided to make a big switch this summer firing former head coach Lindy Ruff after a frustrating season. This led to a league-wide search for a new head coach in New Jersey. Eventually, the Devils announced that former Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe would take the reigns.
Sheldon Keefe was looked at as an exciting fresh option that was meant to get the Devils young stars engaged and performing at their peak. Unfortunately throughout the preseason to this point the New Jersey Devils have struggled causing major discussion.

Sheldon Keefe faces backlash after lack of success in the preseason

The world of the NHL can be a brutal place when things are not going well. Of course this is something Sheldon Keefe knows well coming from a market like Toronto. However, the New Jersey Devils' 0-4 start in the preseason has fans already in a bit of a panic.
Add in the fact that the Toronto Maple Leafs recently won a preseason game against the Montreal Canadiens. Then there is Lindy Ruff in his new home with the Buffalo Sabres who have already played and won 5 preseason games in total.
Of course, the NHL preseason is not a true barometer for the success of a team in the regular season. However, if the New Jersey Devils continue to not win games in the preseason their confidence could be majorly dropped heading into the 2024-25 NHL season. The Devils' next chance to get a win will come on Monday against the New York Rangers.
