Washington Capitals make jersey change official: Alex Ovechkin reveals the 50th-anniversary threads
The Washington Capitals surprised Alex Ovechkin on his birthday with the team's new screaming eagle jersey, which will be worn for six games this season.
The Washington Capitals, as part of their 50th year anniversary, will don an anniversary edition black "Screaming Eagle" jersey for six home games during the 2024-25 season. This extremely striking jersey carries a color palette of blue, black, and bronze with one key detail: the Capitol Building is on the shoulder. It combines inspiration from the team's 1995 jersey, pulling in elements from the first alternate uniform and the team's original rebrand.
The team surprised Alex Ovechkin on his birthday with the new jersey that the team will be sporting this upcoming season, and he was thrilled about it.
The "Screaming Eagle" logo swoops downward, symbolizing the fierce energy, power, and speed of an eagle, furthered by its iconic status as the United States' national bird. A shoulder patch shows the Capitol Building with two crossed hockey sticks, completed with two stars and a hockey puck centered between the blades of the sticks.
