Multiple fights broke out today between the Boston Bruins and Columbus Blue Jackets as the teams' top prospects took the ice for a showcase event.

The first fight featured two players that are both looking for an opportunity to be seriously noticed by their clubs. Carlin Dezainde, who is a non-roster camp invite took on Tyler Peddle, a 2023 7th round pick of the Blue Jackets. Both players are unlikely to ever make the NHL, and neither are particularly skilled compared to the top players in this particular game. One way for players in a position like this to get noticed is through fighting though, so it is not particularly surprising to see them go at it. Unfortunately for Dezainde though, Peddle appeared to get the best of him, winning this fight rather handily.

Later in the game, another fight broke out as 2024 2nd round pick of the Blue Jackets Charlie Elick took on another non-roster camp invite in Charles Hilton. This fight was much more evenly matched with both players landing big blows on their opponent, but neither player went down. Eventually the refs had to step in as both players started to get worn down. At best, this one was a draw, but it should be noted that Hilton has not even completed his first year of draft eligibility, which is extremely unusual for an event like this. The 17-year-old certainly showed that he can hold his own physically, although it helps that he is already 6'5" which actually gives him a slight advantage over Elick, who is listed at 6'4."

These will likely not be the last fights we see coming from these prospect showcase games, which are happening across the league right now. Several teams have gone through the effort to stream these events, so be sure to check in on your favorite team to see where you can catch your favorite prospects showing off their skills ahead of training camps and pre-season action. You may very well get treated to a nice fight while you're at it.
