James Van Riemsdyk reportedly chooses his next NHL team: he is headed to the western conference

Multiple reports confirm that James Van Riemsdyk, the 35-year-old NHLer, is joining the Seattle Kraken on a professional tryout.

The Kraken made a few interesting additions over the summer. They acquired experienced players such as Chandler Stephenson and Brandon Montour, two Stanley Cup champions. Now, they are adding a 1000+ game player in Van Riemsdyk.

While he never won a Stanley Cup, the 2nd overall pick in 2007 played 1,011 regular-season games as well as 82 playoff games between 2009 and 2024. He played for the Philadelphia Flyers, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Boston Bruins.

In the 2023-24 season with the Bruins, he scored 38 points, including 11 goals, proving he can still bring offensive depth to a team's bottom six.

It will be interesting to see what he can bring to Seattle. If he convinces general manager Ron Francis, head coach Dan Bylsma, and the rest of the coaching staff to give him a full-time roster spot and a standard player contract during training camp, he could help the team pursue their goal of reaching the playoffs for the second time since their arrival in the league in 2021.
