After another display of misplaced confidence, Shane Wright is facing humiliation after calling himself a generational talent.

Prospective forward Shane Wright has become no stranger to displays of arrogance and misplaced confidence in the media since before his time in the draft came up. Over a month ahead of the 2022 NHL Draft, Sam Cosentino interviewed him about his pick expectations. The Kingston Frontenacs star shared his belief that he had no doubts that he should be the first pick in the class. Instead, he went fourth overall to the Seattle Kraken. During his moment onstage, he sent a nasty glare to the Montreal Canadiens, who opted out of honoring his beliefs.

" I believe that's where I should go. I believe that I'm the best player. I believe that, you know, throughout my play, throughout my entire life, it has shown that I'm the best player, and I'm a competitive guy, and I want to be that spot, and I don't want anyone to take that from me, and I believe that I'm deserving of being that number one spot, and I believe that I'm going to be the first pick"

However, he has estimated his talent far beyond what he has shown yet again. NHL Fantasy projected that Shane Wright would collect a 48-point total in the 2024-25 season. Upon hearing this news, one fan took the opportunity to use this number as a mark against the forward, who recently called himself a "generational talent" in an interview. Though 48 points in a season is nothing to scoff at, it is hardly a mark of generational talent, especially when compared to last season, when he would have been in 138th in the league., with any of the top eleven recording at least twice the amount.

"I'm still a player that I should be. I'm still a generational talent."

There is no doubt that Shane Wright is a talented hockey player, recording 22 goals and 47 points in 59 games with the Coachella Valley Firebirds last season in the AHL. However, he's clearly overestimated his value in the NHL and made a laughingstock of himself once again. Hopefully this time, he learns to have a little more humility.
