New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin recently touched on his contract extension talks.

The 28-year-old Russian goalie has been the second coming of Henrik Lundqvist for the Blueshirts, boasting a 135-59-17 record over five years, with a .921 save percentage and a 2.43 GAA. He was voted the best goaltender in the league by fans this Summer. His current four-year, $5.6675 AAV million deal wraps up after this upcoming season, making him a potential free agent, and beginning a bidding war for the ages.

But that's something the man himself isn't letting into his mind and is leaving contract talks up to his agent.

My agent, Maxim Moliver, is handling the discussions with the GM. Right now, I'm focusing on getting ready for the season-mentally and physically. I'm excited for what's ahead, and Max is taking care of the contract details.

I've been working with Max for a long time. When I first came to America and didn't speak English, he was here in New York and really helped me out. It's been great working with him because he doesn't have too many clients, so he can give me plenty of attention.

Shesterkin could set the record for goaltenders and net up to $12 million per year. He's earned the right to be in that crease with the elites. GM Chris Drury could afford it, provided he manages several other expiring contracts, including defenseman top left Ryan Lindgren's who just received $4.5 million for the upcoming season and will be up for grabs next Summer.

Since things are in the hands of agents, It's possible he will wait until his client hits the open market. However, Shesterkin is confident that a deal will be reached before things get that far.
