The St. Louis Blues made a bold play for two rising Edmonton Oilers stars, and now a top insider confirms they'll be successful with both.

After a week full of anticipation, the fates of both Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg have been confirmed, as they will depart the Edmonton Oilers and immediately become members of the St. Louis Blues. Despite the Oilers trading away Cody Ceci to make salary cap room, the team will instead acquire a second and a third round pick in exchange for the two players, who will now get the money and the roles that they seek.
On the surface, leaving the Oilers for the St. Louis Blues may not be the best career move, but with both being frustrated at their roles on the playoff juggernaut in Edmonton, this will allow them much more playing time. While Broberg struggled frequently in the NHL, Holloway stepped up in a huge way in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and with a need for depth in the forward group, the departure of the Calgary native is a shock to many.
On the positive side for the Oilers, they now have two more draft picks to play with at the 2025 NHL trade deadline, and with salary space somewhat clearing up, especially if they place Evander Kane on LTIR, we may see Stan Bowman swing big in his first year as they chase their first Stanley Cup since 1990.
