Lou Lamoriello set to part ways with two longtime New York Islanders players
The New York Islanders came into this off-season looking for change, and now GM Lou Lamoriello has announced two huge departures for this organization.
After another disappointing end to their season with a 4-1 playoff loss against Carolina, the New York Islanders fans have called for change this summer, and in some small way, Lou Lamoriello appears ready to deliver. The team added Anthony Duclair to the already talented top line of Bo Horvat and Mathew Barzal, and now, in an interview with the New York Post, the Isles GM has announced the departure of two veterans.
«We'll probably be moving on,» Lamoriello told The Post. «That isn't saying things can't change. We're talking about two veterans, two quality individuals. Two team leaders and two real good hockey players, so we'll have to see how things come about. But we haven't changed our thought process today any different than the last time we spoke.»
The two players referenced by Lamoirello are Cal Clutterbuck and Matt Marin, who have both spent over 10 years of their careers in New York, but with little production and the team looking to keep up with the speed and the skill of the modern NHL, this is a necessary move.
Both are on the wrong side of 30 and rely on a physical game, with neither contributing over 20 points in a season over the past five years, and with a talented Islanders team that has their eyes set on a deep Stanley Cup Playoff run, this will allow them the opportunity to upgrade and potentially surprise the NHL world in 2024/25.
