Lazar Dukic, a Serbian CrossFit athlete, sadly drowned yesterday during a competition, so the Games were officially suspended.

The CEO of CrossFit Don Faul released an official statement at 12:30 p.m. yesterday that an athlete had died. Due to this tragic passing, Don Faul also announced that the events for the rest of the day were cancelled and suspended indefinitely.
«We'll continue to be focused on supporting our community and the family through this tragic set of circumstances,» he said on the livestream.

Some of the chilling details were released regarding what exactly had happened based on information provided.
- Event one consisted of a 3.5-mile run followed by an 800-meter swim for time. It started at 7 a.m. local time (CST) at Marine Creek Lake, located in Fort Worth, TX.

- Local authorities received a call around 8 a.m. after officials realized Dukic had not finished the event.

- CBS News Texas then reported that an athlete had drowned around 8 a.m., and a body was seen taken out of the lake in a body bag.
There was a ton of sadness that broke out among the fans after the tragedy was announced. Many were sad, but many were also very angry that not more was done to prevent this from happening, and many complained that help was not offered fast enough. People are blaming CrossFit for not having acted quick enough and want them held responsible. Don Faul did respond to this criticism at a follow-up news conference.
«We have, for an event like this, a fully documented safety plan. We had safety personnel on-site for the event. All of the details around the process, the event, what unfolded today, that'll be a part of the details that we work on with authorities.»

We hope that Lazar Dukic's family gets the closure they deserve, and everyone is looking for answers and for someone to be held responsible for this tragedy. It is unacceptable.
