Lamecha Girma, an Ethiopian star runner who holds a Guinness World Record, tripped during an Olympic sprint event and had to be stretchered off.

In the middle of a sprinting event at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, something went terribly wrong for Lamecha Girma, who appeared to have taken a massive fall going full speed, as he tripped while attempting to jump over a barrier during the final lap in Wednesday's 3000m men's steeplechase.
The video of the fall shows the 23-year-old world record holder gaining speed as he was heading down the back straightaway, and then as he leapt to clear the hurdle, he accidentally clipped the barrier with his right knee and fell awkwardly and horribly, directly onto his upper body.
After the fall, he immediately rolled onto his stomach and laid there, unable to move or get up. Medical assistance was seen rushing to him.
Olympic Games commentator Leigh Diffey was heard saying that Girma remained motionless for a very long time. After several long agonizing minutes, Girma was finally taken off the track on a stretcher, and was seen with a neck brace on, as four medical personnel attended to him. It's never a good thing to see someone with a neck brace, so everyone is thinking and praying for Girma to have a speedy recovery and face no further complications.
«In 40 years of commentating running and the steeplechase, I have never seen a fall that heavy,» Diffey said solemnly as he signed off.

Girma holds the world record in this event from the past, and also got silver in the 2021 Tokyo Games for this competition. The fact that Diffey has been in the commentating business for four decades and has never seen such a horrific fall is very worrisome, and details will be provided to everyone as more information becomes available.
