Controversial NHL defenseman Tony DeAngelo appears to have used up all of his chances in the National Hockey League (NHL), and could have no choice but to continue his career overseas.
According to several reports, DeAngelo might be heading to the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) after becoming the first player in NHL history to have his contract bought out twice, by two separate teams.
DeAngelo has had several problems with his behaviour that resulted in him being benched many times in the NHL. He also had a confrontation with former teammate Alexandar Georgiev and has made many controversial posts all over social media.
DeAngelo was also suspended many times in the NHL. A prime example of this was during the 2016-17 season while playing with the Arizona Coyotes. DeAngelo ended up being suspended for three games for verbally abusing David Brisebois, NHL linesman.
DeAngelo didn't only have attitude problems in the NHL, as he also had his fair share of problems during his Ontario Hockey League (OHL) days. While playing with the Sarnia Sting back in 2014, he was suspended twice for violating the league policy.
In 371 career NHL games with the New York Rangers, Arizona Coyotes, Carolina Hurricanes and Philadelphia Flyers, DeAngelo has put up 48 goals and added an a further 162 assists. These are pretty good numbers that no doubt would have been even better had he not had any behaviour problems. NHL teams have likely had enough with him.
