After 7 years and almost 300 games in the NHL, the young 20-goal scorer Denis Gurianov is leaving the Philadelphia Flyers after signing a multi-year contract in the KHL.

Denis Gurianov has had a relatively volatile career in the NHL. Despite his height and shooting ability, he was expected to fall into the second round of the 2015 NHL draft. However, the Dallas Stars saw great potential in the Russian forward and went off the board to grab him at the 12th overall spot.
"The Dallas Stars select RW Denis Gurianov No. 12 overall in the 2015 NHL Draft."
Gurianov had the opportunity to impress the team with his skills in the AHL, as well as on the road to the Stanley Cup. In 2020, he had attained his first regular season with 20 goals before making the shot that sent the Dallas Stars to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 2000.
"Here it is -- the goal from Denis Gurianov that sends the Dallas #Stars to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in twenty years"
However, he has since largely fallen off the ice, producing less than 20 total points since the 2022-23 season. As a result, he was bounced around to Montreal, Nashville, and Philadelphia, playing only 41 games across all three teams. Unhappy with his ice time, Gurianov has left the Philadelphia Flyers and Milwaukee Admirals and signed a two-year deal with CSKA Moskva in the KHL.
"After 8 seasons in NHL and AHL, 27-year-old F Denis Guryanov signed a contract with CSKA."
Gurianov will not be the only familiar NHL face part of Moscow's KHL team. Joining the 27-year-old forward are Egor Afanasyev, Dmitry Samorukov, Ruslan Ishakov, and Nikita Okhotyuk.
"CSKA of the #KHL signed a 3-year deal with Egor Afanasyev from the @PredsNHL #Preds, 3-year deal with Dmitry Samorukov from the @penguins #LetsGoPens, 2-year deal with Denis Gurianov from the @NHLFlyers #LetsGoFlyers, 2-year deal with Ruslan Iskhakov from the @NYIslanders #Isles, 2-year deal with Nikita Okhotyuk from the @NHLFlames #Flames"
Though he probably imagined he would be at a different point in his career at this age, Denis Gurianov will undoubtedly get more ice time playing in Russia. Given that he is joined by some of his NHL colleagues, CSKA Moskva will likely be a force to be reckoned with.
