This afternoon reports are coming out that Washington Capitals superstar forward Alex Ovechkin has suffered an injury while home in Russia.

Today in Russia is a big day for summer hockey with a game between NHL stars and KHL stars. The game is going to be the farewell game for the KHL's all-time greatest player Sergei Mozyakin. Unfortunately, it was announced today that Alexander Ovechkin will not be playing due to a knee injury.
This injury is not too serious and did not prevent Ovechkin from playing in the Game of the Year a week ago," said a source from Match TV.

"But now Alexander has decided to take care of himself so that he can begin full training in 10 days."
This upcoming season could be a historic one for Alex Ovechkin himself. While Sergei Mozyakin is the all-time points leader in the KHL with 756 points and another 269 in Russia's top league before it became the KHL Alex Ovechkin remains close to Wayne Gretzky's goal record. Luckily this injury for Alex Ovechkin should only keep him away from training for 10 days.
Despite the lack of team success for the Washington Capitals last season Alex Ovechkin remains just 41 goals away from the record. If he can stay healthy and produce near his previous seasons the record could be broken this season. If he doesn't stay healthy then we could have to wait an entire extra season to see hockey history happen.
