The Winnipeg Jets have been quiet this summer, and now it's been revealed that they had one huge trade fall apart with the Washington Capitals.

The 2024 NHL Draft was full of drama, but weeks after the event, we've heard of more trades that almost went through that ended up going through, even on a weekend that was full of drama. Now, details have emerged of a deal between the Jets and Capitals surrounding Connor McMichael that ultimately fell apart.
The report from RNMB revealed that the team were actively looking to move Rutger McGroarty, and almost made a deal with Washington that saw them land the talented 23-year old McMichael. This comes as a surprise because McMichael had only just inked a two-year extension in Washington, coming off a year in the NHL where he tallied career highs in goals (18), assists (15), points (33) and games (80).
Capitals and Jets reportedly discussed trade that involved Connor McMichael at 2024 NHL Draft
As we know, the deal didn't go through, but it is further evidence from Winnipeg that they are willing to move McGroarty, although his character issues may be becoming a major red flag for other teams. It's clear that the Jets are looking to compete for the Cup in 2024/25, and with several teams out there with veterans to swap for McGroarty, whom they can provide playing time, expect the interest in him to ramp up as we head towards the season.
