After firing Elliotte Friedman's former 32 Thoughts co-host Jeff Marek, Sportsnet will reportedly embark on a mass layoff spree.

Jeff Marek has long been a part of NHL broadcasting, becoming one of the most popular faces across the company. Understandably, it was a tough break for the hockey community after it was announced that after the 2024 NHL Draft edition of the 32 Thoughts Podcast, he was fired and would no longer be part of Sportsnet. Both he and his former co-host Elliotte Friedman have taken the opportunity roughly a month later to speak about their time working on the show together.
"When we started the podcast, Sportsnet asked if I wanted to do it myself or have a co-host. I liked the idea of playing off someone; @moorescottmoore suggested Jeff Marek.

It was brilliant. Jeff has his loopy suggestions, but they made for fun debates and great moments.

Life throws curveballs at you. I will miss being his teammate, and thank him for being a tremendous co-pilot on the start to our 32 Thoughts podcasting voyage — which will continue."
However, it seems that Jeff Marek will not be the only person to lose their position at Sportsnet. According to external reports, the company is looking to make cuts across the board, thinning down its staff. Yet, it seems his removal from the company remains a separate issue from the one just ahead for Sportsnet Employees.
"While NOT connected AT ALL it appears that Jeff Marek's exit from Rogers SN could have come just ahead of what sounds like another round of "changes"/cuts/layoffs for the media company."
Though details on why Jeff Marek was let go from the company, fans of the 32 Thoughts Podcast will miss his personality on the show deeply. Hopefully, those who suffer the same fate for their job at Sportsnet can find a backup job in the field as quickly as Marek can expect to.
