The Tampa Bay Lighting announced today that they have signed Cam Atkinson to a one-year contract worth just under a million dollars.

Atkinson was previously with the Philadelphia Flyers where he had one year remaining on his contract. However, the team elected to buy him out in the days leading up to free agency in order to create more cap flexibility for themselves.

NEWS: #LetsGoFlyers to buyout Cam Atkinson. Had 1 year left at $5.875M

Buyout cap hit, per @PuckPedia:
2024/25: $2,358,333
2025/26: $1,758,333

This opened the door to teams to sign the veteran forward on a cheap deal. The Lightning apparently where either the first to express interest, or they offered more than what the other teams were willing to. Either way, he will bring a 900k dollar cap hit to the Lightning on this deal.

Here comes Cam! 👋

We have signed free agent forward Cam Atkinson to a one-year contract worth an AAV of $900,000.

Atkinson took the news of his buyout as an ultimate professional, shouting out Flyers fans as well as the organization themselves after he got the news that he had been bought out.

Can't thank the Flyers organization, players and fans enough for the last 3 years for me and my family! I will always treasure my time in the orange and black🟠⚫️

Atkinson had 13 goals and 28 points last season with the Flyers. Both were career lows for a full 82 game season, although he did miss 12 contests.
