After weeks of swirling rumors of Mitch Marner's departure, Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube accidentally confirmed that the Core 4 forward will return to Toronto for another season.

Toronto Maple Leafs Core 4 forward Mitch Marner has remained a hot topic in NHL trades for weeks. His name has been recently floated for Utah's new hockey team, though any deal discussed between the two has been debunked.

"On the Mitch Marner to Utah report/rumor that's out there: I reached out to the Marner camp who told me it is '100% not true.' A Leafs team rep also poured cold water all over the report calling it completely untrue."

Since then, several Insiders have predicted where Marner will play in the upcoming season. Notably, former NHL goaltender and current ESPN analyst Kevin Weekes suggested during the 2024 draft that the forward will stay in Toronto.

"Kevin Weekes on if he thinks Mitch Marner will remain with the Leafs on opening night next season:

'Yes, he's a Toronto kid, it's his choice. I've had a lot of talks with his agent, and it's his right. He wants to be a Leaf. I don't see him relinquishing that.'"

Today, his predictions proved true. Toronto's new head coach Craig Berube accidentally slipped that Marner will remain one of the Maple Leafs in a statement expressing his excitement to work with him.

"He's a character guy. He's a great person. Obviously, a great player. I'm looking forward to coaching him"

Though no official news has dropped on Mitch Marner's stay in Toronto, Berube's statement leaves little room for movement. In all likelihood, we will hear about new contract details in the upcoming days.
