The Carolina Hurricanes are starting to shop Martin Necas according to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman.

Friedman was discussing Necas on the Jeff Marek show when he revealed that talk involving the Hurricanes forward are starting to ramp up. He was cautious in his phrasing in his traditional way, but it does seem likely that Necas will not be a member of the Hurricanes at the start of next season.

Jeff Marek Show: Elliotte says he doesn't want to say the Necas stuff is "heating up" but talk has picked up. People thought it could get worked between both sides but they don't think that's going to happen. #CauseChaos #NHL

Friedman also revealed what the Hurricanes are looking for in return. The team is reportedly very high in the 25-year-old so they are looking for a similar caliber player in return. Necas had 24 goals and 53 points this season in 77 games. Last season though, he scored 28 goals and had 71 points in 77 games.

On Necas: "Carolina is letting people know that they consider Necas a budding star and that's the kind of return they want."
"Star power is what they want in return I heard."
Elliotte says a 1st rounder and a decent prospect isn't going to cut it. #CauseChaos #NHL

The Hurricanes have just 26 million dollars in cap room this summer to fill at least five roster spots. Due to the other players that have on expiring contracts, re-signing Necas will be very difficult. The Czech forward may have increased his trade value over seas this year though as he helped Czechia win gold at the World championships with 7 points in 5 games.

David Kampf's huge faceoff win sets up Martin Necas and Czechia leads 4-2.
