Connor McDavid is undeniably the best player in the league, but last night, his Edmonton Oilers were shut out by the Florida Panthers.

In a game where the Edmonton Oilers outshot and arguably outplayed the Florida Panthers, Sergei Bobrovsky stole the show, shutting them out, and Stuart Skinner allowed two goals. The Florida Panthers finished things off with an empty net goal, adding insult to injury on the night for the Oilers.

Now, captain Connor McDavid has commented, and his excuse for the performance is embarrassing:

"Maybe it was the hockey gods getting us back for that Game 6. You know where we probably didn't deserve to win."

"Tonight maybe we deserved at least one goal, maybe two goals, and we don't find a way to get them,"

"I know this group will stick with it, bounce back, that's what we take a lot of pride in doing. We'll gear up for a big one on Monday."

Connor McDavid opted to reference game six against the Dallas Stars, where the Stars were by far and away the better team, but Stuart Skinner held strong. The Oilers only had 12 shots in that game!

Clearly the Edmonton Oilers will need to step up to beat the Florida Panthers - right now, they look unstoppable.
