Just as the Panthers and Oilers fanbases started to heat up, Sportsnet became the victim of a cyber attack that confused fans ahead of the start of the Stanley Cup Finals.

The Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers have both players vigorous, aggressive games to get them to the Stanley Cup Finals, both beating the first and second-ranking teams from the regular season.

However, when the focus should be on the teams ahead of the big matchup, all eyes turned to Sportsnet, who found themselves the subject of a cyber attack. The hacker used the company's X account to push an apparent cryptocurrency, not anything generally associated with a sporting news service.

Provided the urgency of this matter, the company's social media team quickly used its Public Relations page to respond to the initial post. In this, they informed viewers they had lost access to the account and advised them not to interact.
"Please be advised that our main @Sportsnet account on X has been compromised and we are currently working to recover it. In the meantime it is unsafe to click any links or engage with any posts from the account."
Thankfully, Sportsnet regained access to their account within a few hours of the hi-jack. "Canada's No. 1 Sports Network" has now returned to its coverage of the Stanley Cup and all things NHL.
"Our main @sportsnet account has been recovered."
The first game of the Stanley Cup Finals is now underway, already in the first intermission. The Florida Panthers are currently leading the Edmonton Oilers 1-0 after Carter Verhaege scored the first goal.
