Per NHL insider Nick Kypreos, the Montreal Canadiens have been blocked from trading for Carolina Hurricanes star Martin Necas.

Due to the process of the Sebastian Aho offer sheet and then subsequent Jesperi Kotkaniemi offer sheet while Marc Bergevin and Don Waddell were in charge, there is reportedly no chance that the Carolina Hurricanes deal with the Montreal Canadiens in a potential Martin Necas trade.

"As much as the Habs love [Martin Necas], there seems to be zero chance of a trade with Montreal considering the bad blood over the Jesperi Kotkaniemi offer sheet in 2021." - Nick Kypreos

Martin Necas checks a lot of the Montreal Canadiens' boxes in a potential acquisition, as he has size (6 foot 2), as well as a whole lot of skill. However, while the fit seems great, this bad blood between former general managers seems to have carried over, and a deal will not come to fruition.

The Montreal Canadiens are intending to make another 'Kirby Dach' style trade, which they equally did with Alex Newhook last year. Possible contenders for this are Patrik Laine, Trevor Zegras, or Marco Rossi now that Necas is off the table.

It will certainly be an interesting off-season for these two teams.
