The Edmonton Oilers' respected veteran Sam Gagner may be screwed over if his team wins the Stanley Cup: his name won't be on it unless he plays a game in the Finals.

Gagner's journey in Edmonton started in 2007, when he was drafted 6th overall. Since then, he has played for the Arizona Coyotes, Philadelphia Flyers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Vancouver Canucks, Detroit Red Wings, and Winnipeg Jets before returning to the Oilers organization this season.
He only took part in 28 games with the Oilers this season and hasn't been in the lineup during the playoffs. However, he remains with the team, cheering and motivating his teammates.
Oilers players and fans want to see him win a Stanley Cup:
I know he hasn't played yet but from what they show in the playoff passes, he's right there with everyone. Hugging everyone, giving everyone pep talks and being their biggest cheerleader. He's Papa Oiler and he deserves the cup after all he's been through
Unfortunately, as of now, he's not eligible to have his name written on the Stanley Cup.
The rules are clear: players must appear in at least 41 games in the regular season, or one game during the Stanley Cup Final. Unless he takes part in a game against the Florida Panthers, if the Oilers win the Cup, his name won't be on it:
ENGRAVING ELIGIBILITY: A player is required to have appeared in at least 41 regular-season games with a team, or one Stanley Cup Final game, to be eligible to have his name engraved on the trophy.

If head coach Kris Knoblauch doesn't add him to the lineup, the Oilers will have one final option as they can make a petition to add a player's name on the Cup.
Do you think Sam Gagner's name will be written on the Stanley Cup if the Edmonton Oilers win?
