It is widely speculated that Mitch Marner will be traded this offseason and now a new report from Pierre LeBrun has connected Mitch Marner to a move out West.

Yesterday the NHL had its first offseason trade between the Nashville Predators and the Tampa Bay Lightning. The move saw Ryan Mcdonagh move to the Tampa Bay Lightning in a salary cap-clearing move for the Predators.

After the trade was made rumors began to fly that the Nashville Predators were looking to add a high scoring winger. This naturally prompted Mitch Marner's name to be connected to the Preds.

It appears the purpose of the McDonagh trade was to set up Barry Trotz to aggressively pursue a top scorer.

The Preds have been linked with Mitch Marner for the past few weeks and now have a cap hit of $61,654,199 for next season which gives them lots of room for a trade.

With this rumor spreading Predators GM Barry Trotz was asked about the situation and if there was truth to the pursuit of Mitch Marner. Barry Trotz would immediately shut that speculation down for now.

I asked Barry Trotz if he'd be interested in acquiring Mitch Marner, with now some $25 million in cap room.

His response is pretty hilarious and he shrugged it off as «just rumors.»

A short time later we got an overall update on the Mitch Marner situation from Pierre LeBrun. He confirmed that the Toronto Maple Leafs have not begun talks with other teams regarding Mitch Marner. He also admitted many teams are expected to be interested if talks do begin.

Just FYI, it's my understanding as of this moment that the Maple Leafs have not spoken to a single team about Mitch Marner. The Leafs were focused on the coaching situation which they've handled now. But there hasn't been any trade conversations regarding Marner.
Obviously we'll see how the next two months play out, no doubt teams will come calling the Leafs on him closer to the draft next month.

With Craig Berube in place as the Toronto Maple Leafs head coach their GM Brad Treliving can focus on Mitch Marner. With the draft around a month away look for Mitch Marner news to pick up at a rapid pace over the next few weeks.
