The Colorado Avalanche are trying to tie their series against the Stars tonight but the deck is stacked against them as star defenseman Devon Toews is out with an illness.

The announcement comes just before puck drop, similar to the news about Valeri Nichuskin dropping. As a result, the Avalanche will be without two of their best players at the most critical time of their season.

Devon Toews is out due to illness, per the Avs.

Caleb Jones will come into the lineup taking Toews' spot while it appears Nichushkin will be replaced by Jonathan Drouin.

🚨 Devon Toews is not playing tonight for Colorado, per the roster report. Caleb Jones draws in. #GoAvsGo

This will surely be a tough challenge for the Avalanche. Be sure to tune in tonight to see if they rally the troops for a win under tough circumstances, or if the Dallas Stars will take a commanding 3-1 series lead.

Not only is Val Nichushkin suspended, but Avalanche defenseman Devon Toews is listed as a scratch on the Roster Report, with Caleb Jones checking in for his 3rd game of the playoffs.

Toews has been playing on the top pair with Cale Makar, averaging 23:46 TOI/GP in the playoffs.
