Edmonton Oilers assistant coach Paul Coffey is reportedly under investigation by the NHL for using an innapropraite gesture towards a Vancouver Canucks fan.

The announcement came today, courtesy of The Hockey News. The timing is particularly notable as the Oilers and Canucks are set to play game two of their conference semi-finals matchup tonight in Vancouver. The alleged incident happened during the first game of the series.

Coffey is reportedly being scrutinized not just by the NHL, but also by the Oilers themselves. As a result, it will be quite interesting to see whether or not he is behind the bench with the rest of the coaching staff tonight.

"The Hockey News has learned that both the Oilers organization and the NHL are investigating [Paul Coffey for an alleged (inappropriate) gesture to a fan's turban]," @TheHockeyNews is reporting.

The incident reportedly happened in Vancouver during game one of the series between the @EdmontonOilers and the @Canucks.

This wouldn't be the first time Coffey has faced allegations of r***(m. In 2014 he was suspended for using a "discriminatory (word)" against another minor hockey coach during a game.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time Coffey has faced such allegations. In 2014, he was suspended three games by the Greater Toronto Hockey League, a AAA junior league, for using a 'discriminatory term.'

Hey All. This wouldn't be the first time Paul Coffey used a slur or racist gesture.

I don't think he needs you to rush to defend his honour lol

With this track record in mind, there may very well be something behind the current allegations. Hopefully for the Oilers, this distraction will not hurt their chances of winning their series against the Canucks.
