After the official announcement that Sheldon Keefe would no longer coach for the Toronto Maple Leafs, former NHL coach and commentator Don Cherry took to X to share his thoughts on his firing.

After another historic game-seven loss in the playoffs to the Boston Bruins, it was clear that the Toronto Maple Leafs were due for a major change. This continued with their announcement today that their head coach, Sheldon Keefe, has been fired after five seasons with the team.

"The Maple Leafs have fired Sheldon Keefe."

This news spread among those following the NHL quickly, with fans all over the map commenting on Tronoto's decision. Among these was long-time hockey icon Don Cherry, who both sympathized with KEefe and shared his belief that the game was lost on a goalie and not on coaching.

"The Leafs let Sheldon Keefe go. I know how he feels; it's not fun. For all the Leafs fans, ask yourself this: Switch goalies. Who wins the series? Show me a good coach, and I'll show you a good goalie."

The response to Cherry has been, per usual, mixed. Fans are not only divided on what lost the Leafs game seven, but also on the reasons behind Keefe's removal entirely.

Whether or not you agree with the Maple Leafs' decision to fire their head coach, Sheldon Keefe has made his final farewell to the team. Now, we will have to wait to hear who will take his place as their search for a replacement begins.
