It was a terrifying scene in Colorado today as Winnipeg Jets forward Vladislav Namestnikov was rushed to hospital after taking a puck to the face.

In the midst of a dominant game by the Colorado Avalanche, who have looked like a dangerous contender this series barring game one, Vladislav Namestnikov was struck in the face with a slap shot, immediately knocking him down to the ground.

While there was optimism he may have been able to return to the game, it was confirmed that he had been rushed to a Denver hospital for further testing and care.

Being transported to a hospital here in Denver.

High impact head injuries are terrifying, and treated very seriously by the NHL. He may be placed into concussion protocol, knocking him out for the next few games (if there are even more than one left to play).

With the series on the line, the Winnipeg Jets need all hands on deck. Unfortunately, a key set of hands, Namestnikov, who signed a three-year extension a few months ago, may not be one of them.

A crushing end to a season full of optimism.
