Dzingel feels that he didn't get a fair shake in Carolina; now he's flourishing in Ottawa

Ryan Dzingel is loving life in his new home in Ottawa. After recently being traded by the Carolina Hurricanes, the 29-year-old is finally feeling appreciated by his teammates.

The Illinois native recently appeared on TSN Ottawa 1200 where he addressed the media following Thursday morning's practice.

«I wasn't really given an opportunity with Carolina,» Dzingel said.

Dzingel had 4 points (2 goals, 2 assists) in 11 games with Carolina this year, playing mostly on the fourth line before being traded. Now the forward is flourishing in his not so new home. Currently, he has 4 goals in 8 games with the Sens since being acquired in February. He is getting valuable minutes playing on the powerplay as well as more ice-time than he did with the Hurricanes.

«It's nice having guys in the room believe in me.» Dzingel said regarding his teammates on the Senators.

In his first stint with the team, which lasted four seasons, he appeared in 255 games, tallying 66 goals and 130 points. Dzingel couldn't really find his place in Columbus or Carolina. With Carolina he appeared in 75 games, scoring just 10 goals, but he did add 23 assists. The problem was that it just didn't feel right for him. Ottawa just feels like home for Dzingel.

He also had a small tenure with the Columbus Blue Jackets, scoring 4 goals and 12 points in 21 games, but as everyone knows, John Tortorella is not the easiest coach to play for.

The Senators currently sit last in the NHL's North Division with a 10-20-3 record, but the future looks bright with all of the high talent coming up through the organization. It really depends on whether or not the team can bring in other players to compliment players like Dzingel and build a contending team once again.
