The Toronto Maple Leafs have made a major addition to their roster with the signing of top free agent Nicolas Mattinen. He comes to the Maple Leafs after a stint in the top German league the DEL.

Today is a big day for the Toronto Maple Leafs as they have added Nicolas Mattinen from the Straubing Tigers in the DEL. The contract will begin in the 2024-25 season.

We've signed defenceman Nicolas Mattinen to a one-year, two-way contract beginning in 2024-25

Nicolas Mattinen has a previous connection to the Maple Leafs as he was drafted by the team in 2016. Fast forward to this season, he put up 46 points in the DEL which was the most for that respective league.

The Toronto Maple Leafs signed defender Nicolas Mattinen to a one-year, two-way deal. The 26-year-old 6'5 RD was a 6th Round Pick of Toronto in 2016, had 16G, 30A, 46P in 52 Games in the German league (DEL) for the Straubing Tigers.

While the Maple Leafs will not get Nicolas Mattinen until next season he could be a major addition to the roster. If he can translate even some of the offense he created in the DEL he could be the top offensive defenseman for the Maple Leafs.
