It looks like the NHL began planning for the Arizona Coyotes to play in Salt Lake City next season after years of relocation rumours.

According to Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli, the NHL made two version of the Coyotes' 2024-25 calendar: one in Arizona, and the other in Salt Lake City.

"Sources: #NHL is drafting two schedule versions for next season - one with #Yotes in Arizona, another with the relocated franchise playing in Salt Lake City.

Fluid situation. Lots of moving parts. Details on dual paths and a potential transaction."

However, this doesn't mean the relocation will happen. The NHL prepares for both scenarios, just in case. And it's all done in collaboration with Alex Meruelo, the Coyotes' owner.

In recent months, a few investor groups have shown interest in bringing an NHL franchise to their cities. Bettman notably met with people from Atlanta and Houston on Monday, and received business proposals from others, such as Salt Lake City.

Everything could be confirmed as soon as April 18th, after the Coyotes' season. But it'll likely have to wait until June 27th, when the land that's being eyed for a future arena site goes to auction.

More to come.
