The Philadelphia Flyers are right in the hunt for a playoff spot in the Metro Division in 2023-24, but despite the results, old-school coach John Tortorella clearly isn't 100% pleased with his team.

John Tortorella preparing to scratch his captain?!

The Philadelphia Flyers weren't expected to be a great team in 2023-24, but with the youth and the experience stepping up under John Tortorella, the team are playing better than even the biggest Flyers optimist could have expected.

Despite solid play this season, a rumour has now emerged that Head Coach John Tortorella is on the verge of potentially scratching his captain ahead of a battle with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

It's unclear exactly why this would be happening, but given that he was named captain just a matter of weeks ago, this wouldn't exactly send the best message to the Flyers locker room.

However, Couturier certainly isn't having his best season, with just 11 goals and 36 points in 64 games played, so if Torts is prepared to scratch his teams captain, it could keep everyone on their toes. Ultimately, Tortorella is in charge of the room, and it's clear that his turnaround this season has them ready for a playoff spot, and if this does come true, he's showing that no one is bigger than the team, and it could work out for both the team and Couturier.
