The battle of Florida got heated today after one Panthers defenseman made an ill-advised hit, leading to his ejection.

Kulikov Ejected After Brutal Hit To The Head On Lightning Forward

The Florida Panthers thought that they had scored today but the referees waived it off immediately. Instead, the Lightning came out of the play with a 5 minute powerplay as Dmitri Kulikov hit Lightning forward Conor Sheary in the head. After a brief review, the call on the ice was confirmed and the Panthers defenseman was given the match penalty.

The lightning and the Panthers are both looking to make long playoff runs this season, so this game should serve as a good indication of what might come in the playoffs should the two teams meet. Hopefully we don't see more plays like this though.
