The head coach was clearly not happy with his team after the loss this evening. He noted how the team played well, but they made key mistakes at critical times, handing the Senators easy scoring opportunities, which they capitalized on.
He emphasized the fact that the Senators did not have to earn their win. Rather they just had to capitalize on the mistakes the Islanders made, which were plentiful enough to get them the win on overtime.
Throughout the interview, Roy appeared to have had enough with this team.
The loss marked the team's 3rd in a row. The last two of which have come against the Senators and Sabres, two teams below them in the standings. With the current losing streak, the team is now outside the playoff picture once again as the second wild card spot in the Eastern conference is currently held by the Detroit Red Wings. Making matters worse is the fact that the Islanders lost such a critical game while giving up a hat trick to Brady Tkachuk, one of the more hated players in the league.
Only time will tell if the Islanders are able to recover from this, but based on the way the team has played this season, fans probably shouldn't get their hopes up too much.
As seen on Patrick Roy disgusted after loss to the Ottawa Senators.
