The Winnipeg Jets got some bad news today as they are still competing for the top spot in the Central division.

Vilardi Out Indefinitely After Enlarged Spleen Diagnosis

Winnipeg Jets head coach Rick Bowness confirmed this morning that Gabe Vilardi will be out indefinitely. This is not the forward's first trip to LTIR this season. The team's doctors discovered recently that he has been dealing with an enlarged spleen, a serious condition.

#NHLJets coach Rick Bowness says Gabe Vilardi has been diagnosed with an enlarged spleen. This is something that recently was discovered. He won't travel with the team for the five-game trip. No timeline on a return. He's getting treatment.

Making matters worse is the fact that the team doctors were not even looking for spleen issues. They were apparently trying to diagnose other problems that the forward has been dealing with this season when they discovered this new issue. As such, he could miss extended time.

Per the #NHLJets, the spleen issue with Gabe Vilardi was just diagnosed as part of an ongoing medical evaluation pertaining to a different (undisclosed) issue. So plenty of mystery about the whole situation.

Vilardi has been very good for the Jets in his limited time in the lineup this season. He has 16 goals and 30 points in 38 games with the team.

Hopefully he will be able to make a full recovery before the playoffs start as the Jets will need him should they go on a deep run.
