The daily waiver wire was released at noon on Thursday and there was a bit of a surprise move. The Ottawa Senators have placed Filip Chlapik on unconditional waivers for the purpose of buying out his contract.

Chlapik, 23, was drafted in the second round by Ottawa back in 2015 (48th overall). He played one game for the Senators this season, as well as two for Belleville of the AHL. He's played a total of 57 NHL games in his career, scoring five goals and 11 points.

It's not clear if this is a one-sided or mutual decision to part ways. Chlapik is from the Czech Republic and it's possible he wants to go home to continue his hockey career, although that has not been officially announced.
