Kings defender fined by Player Safey for cross-checking Yotes winger Conor Garland in the face

The Los Angeles Kings, winners of four-straight, have been a pleasant surprise in the NHL's West Division this season. The Kings are currently sporting a 7-6-3 record through their first 16 games and sit in 4th place in the division, with the Arizona Coyotes nipping at their heels.

During Saturday's contest between the two clubs, Kings defenseman Austin Strand took things a little too far in front of the LA net when he delivered a stiff cross-check right to the face of Coyotes forward Conor Garland at 19:59 of the 2nd period, resulting in a minor penalty. On Sunday, the NHL's department of player safety ruled that the cross-check warranted supplemental discipline in the form of a $3,168.10 fine, the maximum allowable under the current CBA.

Strand, an undrafted defenseman, has suited up in just 7 games for the Kings this season, registering a single assist over that span.

Garland, meanwhile, was able to finish the game, albeit in a losing effort for the Coyotes, despite going 2-for-4 with the man-advantage.
