Slater Koekkoek's x-rays revealed after suffering upper-body injury on Saturday

The Edmonton Oilers lost defenceman Slater Koekkoek to an upper-body injury in Saturday night's win over the Calgary Flames. Koekkoek was hit by Flames forward Sam Bennett in the first period, left the game, and did not return. Bennett received a two-minute minor for interference on the play.

The extent of the injury was not known until Sunday morning when Koekkoek posted on his x-rays on his Instagram story. The x-rays revealed a broken collarbone, which will likely keep the 27-year-old out of action for the next couple months. Although a timeline hasn't been announced by the Oilers, it's a similar break to what Connor McDavid suffered during his rookie season, and kept him out of the lineup for nearly three months.

Koekkoek signed a one-year contract with the Oilers back in late December. The North Dundas, Ontario native has spent parts of seven seasons in the NHL playing for Tampa Bay, Chicago, and Edmonton.

In 166 regular season games, he's tallied 30 points (8 G, 22 A), 88 penalty minutes, and is a -1. In 19 career playoff games, Koekkoek has 4 points (1 G, 3 A), 4 penalty minutes, and is a +3.
