His nickname may be Sid the Kid, but Sidney Crosby certainly isn't a kid anymore. The 33-year-old is taking part in his 1000th game Saturday night as his Pittsbirgh Penguins face the New York Islanders. Of course, this is a huge deal for his team. Crosby remains the backbone of the Penguins and one of the best active players in the league (and some will argue the best still).

While his teammates were out for their pre-game skate, all dressed in their no. 87 jerseys, Crosby got a bit of a surprise as they all stopped and started re-tying their skates, something that has been a part of Crosby's pre-game ritual for a very long time. Check it out:

It's a great homage to an excellent teammate and someone who has served as the face of the NHL. Before his 1000th game started, the three-time Stanley Cup champion had already recorded 468 goals and 1276 points. Crosby is destined to be entered into the Hall of Fame as soon as he is edible and the honour will be well-deserved.
