Six weeks after undergoing open-heart surgery, former New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist took to Twitter to say he was feeling great following a doctor's appointment on Wednesday. The 38-year-old had surgery for an aortic valve replacement, aortic root, and ascending aortic replacement in early January.

"Today is a good day. The checkup with the doctor this morning reaffirmed what I've been feeling last few weeks, everything looking great. It energized me so much I had to go out for a run (FYI, I'm not a runner). Today is a good day! #Stepbystep"

Lundqvist signed a one-year contract with the Washington Capitals in the offseason after being bought out by the New York Rangers following 15 years in The Big Apple. The discovery of his heart condition forced the Are, Sweden native to sit out the 2020-21 season.

In 887 regular season games, he has 459 wins, 310 losses, 96 overtime/shootout losses, a 2.43 G.A.A., a .918 save percentage, and 64 shutouts. In 130 career playoff games, he's recorded 61 wins, 67 losses, a 2.30 G.A.A., a .921 save percentage, and 10 shutouts.
