It didn't seem like it would be a long relationship from the start, and it appears it will be even shorter. An insider is confirming that a former Stanley Cup champion and 40-goal scorer is willing to waive his no-trade clause ahead of the March 8 deadline in order to facilitate an exchange.

Tarasenko to Waive No-trade Clause in Ottawa

The news comes from Dave Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, who says Vladimir Tarasenko of the Ottawa Senators has agreed to be traded, under the right circumstances.
"Like Adam Henrique in Anaheim, the expectation is Vlad Tarasenko will be moved by the #GoSensGo ahead of the deadline. Speaking to those close to him, Tarasenko is open to a trade and will waive his NTC for a Cup contender."

No-trade Clause Waived by Vladimir Tarasenko

Tarasenko, who got his named engraved on the Stanley Cup in 2019 with the St. Louis Blues, only had a one-year contract with the Sens, which makes him an attractive option for teams looking to make a run. Tarasenko can add great depth to a lineup, and comes with next to no committment or risk. If the new team doesn't work out, Tarasenko or the team can choose to walk away from negotiations completely, with no harm done.

The reason for the waiving of the no-trade clause is, of course, because the Ottawa Senators have no chance of making the post season. Tarasenko has 15 goals and 38 points this season in 55 games playing on a team that has had horrible results. He can easily slot in on the third, and even second line with a team that already has some depth and looking to get deeper. Tarasenko's cap hit is $5 million. Not overly high, but salary retention may be needed on Ottawa's part o facilitate a trade.
