A new report has come out today talking about the future of NHL expansion. In recent months cities like Salt Lake City and Atlanta have been frontrunners for a new team. However, today's reports shove talks in a new direction that would bring a second NHL team to the state of Texas.
This report has sparked a ton of discussion over which city deserves an NHL team the most. With the NHL looking to expand to new markets that are not known for hockey Houston could be just the place.
The city of Houston is one of the most rapidly growing cities in the entirety of the United States. With no major hockey team in the area, the NHL could take advantage.
The city of Houston when it comes to sports is a passionate fanbase that will show up for a successful team. In recent years the Astros and Texans have drawn massive crowds while the Rockets have been in a lull. If the NHL expands to Houston they would already have the Rockets arena to use once adapted for hockey.
Taking advantage of a growing United States city with a passion for a multitude of sports would be a good investment for the NHL. The question the league needs to ask regarding expansion is whether or not Houston is not just a good option but the best option.
