Last week, Morgan Rielly was involved in an incident that saw him cross-check young Ridley Greig to the face, and now the veteran defenseman has officially learned his fate.

Morgan Rielly suspension officially upheld

After a meeting and an appeal with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, it has officially been confirmed that Rielly will have to serve the entire five-game suspension for the incident.

Morgan Rielly's five-games suspension has been affirmed by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman.

He's eligible to return to the #leafs lineup on Thursday.

Fortunately for Rielly and the Maple Leafs, the team has fared well without him, and he will be eligible to return to the lineup on Thursday when Toronto battle the Vegas Golden Knights on the road.

Whatever you think of Rielly personally, this was absolutely the right call from the NHL, as it was a major overreaction in the moment, so hopefully he's learned a lesson after missing five games.
