Don Cherry, who is well known for his love of the unwritten rules in the NHL, just shared his opinion on the Morgan Rielly crosscheck during the Senators Leafs game.

Don Cherry Reveals His Opinion on Rielly's Crosscheck to Greig For Breaking Unwritten Rules

Morgan Rielly isn't known for his toughness, but you can see the passion he plays with for the Leafs on any given night. This passion got him into a little bit of trouble over the weekend, as he took his frustration out on Ridley Greig after Greig did some showboating during his empty net goal.

This has sparked a ton of debate online about whether or not Greig broke the 'unwritten code' of the NHL and if Rielly overreacted to the goal. Now, Don Cherry has weighed in on the debate.

"I'm glad Rielly was on and I'm glad he did it," admitted Cherry. "I know there's no rule in the book that says 'Don't do that' but you just don't do that."

"It was a spur of the moment thing that did," said Cherry. "I think he meant to get him on the shoulder but he got him on the back of the neck."

Morgan Rielly Could Be Suspended For Multiple Games After In Person Hearing

The issue many Leaf fans are having is that Morgan Rielly could be facing a suspension of over 5 games since he was offered an in person hearing for the incident. This would be pretty severe, especially considering the level of punishment for other, more violent crimes that have occurred this season.

We will see what the DoPS does when Rielly's suspension is officially announced.
