While there's plenty of excitement (and plenty of criticism) around the signing, it did force the Oilers to place a player on waivers, and now that player has officially been revealed.
The 28-year old Erne has played in 23 games for the Oilers this year, tallying one goal and two points over that time, and while moves like this can sometimes be tough, this was a no-brainer for a team looking to make a Stanley Cup run. Erne had signed a one-year, $775k deal with the Oilers this past summer, so overall, this just made the most sense as the Oilers add some more firepower in the form of the arriving Perry.
