Less than a year after the Ottawa Senators traded a conditional first-round draft pick in 2023, a conditional second-round selection in 2024, and a second-round pick in 2026 to the Arizona Coyotes for Jakob Chychrun, it looks like the defenseman has already given up on the Sens.

Chychrun Already Tired of the Senators

The defenseman always had a special bond with Ottawa. He has a lot of family members in the area, and his father played there.
Unfortunately, it seems like he had a change of heart, and his days in Ottawa could be numbered.
Per the streets, it seems the 'hometown novelty' has mostly worn off for Jakob Chychrun and his camp in Ottawa. Hearing his interest in being a Sen long-term has diminished greatly.

Very unlikely that he extends, far more likely that he's dealt before becoming a UFA #GoSensGo

Chychrun Reportedly Reluctant to Sign Extension in Ottawa

The Senators are currently in the last position in the Atlantic Division. This doesn't reflect at all the talent in their roster. They made major changes this season, firing DJ Smith and naming Jacques Martin as interim head coach.
However, they won't make the playoffs once again this year, despite high expectations.
This certainly comes in when trying to explain Chychrun's reluctance to sign an extension in Ottawa.
The new general manager, Steve Staios, could be looking to make a trade before the deadline, and with his contract ending this year, Chychrun stands out as a potential trade candidate.
«He's not really in any hurry to do anything, and he doesn't have to be,» a league executive told Postmedia. «I just think they're trying to get a feel for what they can get for certain players plus help the group.»
Do you think the Senators will trade Chychrun?
