Steven Stamkos has been the long-time captain of the Tampa Bay Lightning, so is it possible that the team could really trade one of their most loyal players?

After rumours and reports speculated that this could be a possibility all summer long, General Manager Julien Brisebois has denied any of it, claiming that they will chase a Stanley Cup with Stamkos as captain.

"Steven Stamkos is not getting traded so we can put that one to bed. That is not going to change between now and the deadline under any circumstances."

Will Stamkos leave Tampa Bay in free agency?

While this confirms that Stamkos will remain in Tampa Bay in 2023-24 as they look for their third Stanley Cup with this group, it says nothing of his future, which is up in the air beyond this season as he will officially hit free agency.

In his career with the Lightning, Stamkos has become the most decorated player in franchise history, playing in 1,044 games while tallying 533 goals and 1,097 points, so whatever the future holds, it's become apparent that his immediate future remains with the Lightning.
