The Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens have one of the more storied rivalries in all of sports. As both are situated in the current season they could use each others services for a trade.

How the two teams match up in need for a trade

The Bruins are facing injury troubles, and although they have a great record, they are lacking punch up front. Montreal has a plethora of middle-six forwards and one could help the Bruins add to the scoring depth of front.
The issue of course is cap space as both have issues in that area. Montreal currnelty has around $3.5 million in cap space, while Boston has about $1.2 million in cap space. Montreal has one more retention spot, so they can hold salary if the Bruins are willing to pay.
What Dreger said about the Bruins seeking a player for trade:
No different from any other year, there are teams looking for centremen and depth at that position – or a top-two or top-three centreman.

The Player that matches up best and can go from Montreal to Boston

From TSN Insider Trading, Darren Dreger revealed that the Canadiens are looking to trade forward Sean Monahan, who is a potential 2024 unrestricted free agent. His contract has an AAV of $1.98 million and his will be a UFA at seasons end. The Bruins were one of the teams identified as a potential suitor for the 29-year-old forward, including Colorado Avalanche, Edmonton Oilers, and Washington Capitals.
The cap obviously does not match up, but as said before the Canadiens could retain a portion of Monahan's salary so the trade can work. The Canadiens would likely only be able to get a pick or two from Boston.
Monahan has 24 points in 42 games. That would sit him seventh overall in Bruins scoring this season. that production could be a much needed boost to the Bruins middle-six forward core.
