William Nylander just signed a massive deal for the Toronto Maple Leafs. The deal is $92 million over eight years, paid mainly in signing bonus, and comes with a lovely No Move Clause over the entire duration of the contract.

With Nylander getting this large of a contract, and being in Toronto, the talk has now shifted to "What will Mitch Marner's next contract look like?"

All the talk is now on Mitch Marner and his next contract

Mitch Marner's second contract coming out of his ELC was a six-year, $65.4 million contract as he made upwards of $3 million more than Nylander's second contract. It is arguable that Nylander has eclipsed Marner in importance to the team over the last two seasons, so will Marner want more money than Nylander, less or the same.
Because it is Toronto, expect this to be the talk until Marner either signs a new deal or gets dealt as he will also be entering UFA status after next season.
The discussion is still months away, but by the sounds of it, I'm hearing the Marner camp has its sights set on something well north of $11.5 million per season.
The #Leafs next season will have the no.1, no.5, no.9, and no.11 highest-paid players in the NHL.

I think it was important for Toronto to keep William Nylander, but we're onward to the next question - which will be how the team navigates the next Mitch Marner contract.

Expectations already are being discussed

On Sportsnet 590's Kyper and Bourne show, Kypreos, JT Bourne and Sam McKee were talking about where the Leafs go now.
Listen to the short discussion here:
Discussions have the $11.5 million Nylander signed for as the floor for what Mitch Marner would ask. Discuss with that as you will.
