A new report has given life to a potential goalie-for-goalie swap between the Edmonton Oilers and Columbus Blue Jackets.

Oilers Struggling To Find Solution For Campbell Conundrum

The Edmonton Oilers have struggled with inconsistent goaltending play throughout the entire season. The most glaring example of this is veteran goalie Jack Campbell.

Campbell started the year in the NHL. He played so poorly that he was placed on waivers and sent to the AHL. After a bad start there he began to find a groove. So much of an improvement was made that the Oilers considered calling him back up.

However, recently Campbell's play has dipped lower than ever in the AHL.

With his continued poor play, the Oilers will likely have to move on from Campbell if they can. His plummeted trade value has made this harder than expected. However, a new report has suggested one trade option that could be available to the Oilers.

With Campbell needing a change of scenery Oilers reporter Zach Laing suggested a trade partner that could make sense.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have reportedly been looking to move Elvis Merzlikins after he requested a change of scenery. Merzlikins has a goals against average above three this season but a respectable 0.909 save percentage.

With Merzlikins' desire to leave Columbus and his average numbers, he likely would be relatively easy to trade for. If the Oilers offer Jack Campbell plus a prospect as a sweetener this could get done.
