There have already been a few opportunities in the league this year where an experienced, Stanley Cup winning coach could have made a massive difference for a team. Yet, Joel Quenneville has hardly been part of any conversation.

Huge Update on Future of Joel Quenneville

The former Chicago Blackhawks coach has been out of work since resigning from the Florida Panthers in October of 2021 due to something that came out during the Kyle Beach lawsuit. At the time, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said Quenneville would have to be reinstated by him personally before he could ever take on another NHL coaching job. However, even with three head coaching jobs that have come up so far this season, it appears Quenneville either never asked for that to happen, or Bettman decided he doesn't deserve to be yet.

"Joel Quenneville still has not been cleared to return (at this time) to #NHL according to league source."

Joel Quenneville's Future in the NHL Still Up in the Air

Quenneville's resignation came after he denied any prior knowledge of the incident involving Kyle Beach before the lawsuit was filed years later. However, testimonies from others with the Blackhawks at the same time disputed that. It could be that Bettman has already decided it's far more trouble than it's worth to ever allow him back in the NHL. At the same time, perhaps the 65-year-old has decided he's no longer interested.
